All I have been able to find out about Archie Wells is that he was born in Glasgow in 1874, but went to Australia where he studied art in New South Wales before returning to the UK and ultimately settling in Rye, Sussex. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Walker Gallery in Liverpool, and The New English Art Club.

This is a very nicely executed painting and I would estimate dates from the mid twentieth century. It has a label on the rear from an antiques shop in Alderney Edge, Cheshire, who presumably sold it at some point.

Condition: There are a couple of faint marks to the painting, which may have been done at the time of painting, but overall both frame and painting are in very good condition.

Dimensions:

Including the frame, 46.5cm wide, 40cm tall, 3cm deep. The image size is approximately 36cm wide and 29.5cm tall.
