We acquired this metal table base a while ago, and while it isn’t an old one it is very heavy and nicely made, so we thought it merited a nice top. We have made a top out of three small planks of burr elm which have been shaped to fit together, and have added some butterfly keys made from paduak, which is an African hardwood similar to mahogany. The paduak is a bright red colour at the moment but will darken to a deep brown over time if exposed to sunlight. Both the elm and paduak were pieces of timber left over from other projects (the paduak came from my brother, who is a guitar builder), so it was good to be able to make use of them.
The table can be adjusted in height simply by winding it up and down, and there is a nut around the winding screw that holds it in a set position if desired.
Condition: Excellent condition.
