Kevin de Choisy (1954 - 2020) was a British studio potter who was unusual in being able to produce top quality work in earthenware and stoneware, as well as porcelain. He trained in ceramics at Harrow School of Art under Colin Pearson and Walter Keeler. He then spent some time in New Mexico and Arizona between 1978 and 1980 studying Native American Pueblo pottery. In 1984 he returned to the United States to work as a production thrower and designer at Rowe Pottery Works in Wisconsin before returning to England in 1991, when he became a ceramic technician at the University of the West of England. It was there that he developed many of the forms and the decoration that he used in his work. He is best known for his contemporary take on the polychrome and creamware glazes that were developed in England during the industrial revolution. More recently Kevin became interested in Chinese Song ceramics and the celadon glazes in particular. He was considered by some to be one of this country’s leading authorities on high fired Oriental glazes, having a real feel and understanding of the subtleties of the many types of celadon.
