Vintage Oval Barley Twist Table with Blue & White Painted Finish

A 1930’s oak oval side table with barley twist turned legs, which I have painted in a pale blue with a blue and white pattern inspired by the borders and patterns on an antique delft plate we had in stock. The finish is lightly distressed and finished with a white wax to soften the colours…

I have painted this using chalk paint and it is finished with a lightly applied white wax to give it a lived-in look without darkening it. The colours used are Annie Sloan ‘Greek Blue’ mixed with a little ‘Arles’ yellow to dull the blue a bit (it is now more of a duck egg blue I would say), and ‘Napoleonic Blue’, similarly mixed with a little yellow.

We had a lovely Delft charger in stock that had a pretty border and that has inspired the border around the edge of the table top and along the stretchers, with the central motif on the table top inspired by other patterns on that plate.

Condition: The table had a loose top so blocks have been added underneath to secure it. There is a small amount of movement in the frame but nothing that affects its usability. The paint finish is lightly distressed, especially around the feet, and has been finished with several coats of wax to protect it.
